Movies Aplenty
Is it just me or are there a LOT of really good movies out/just coming out right now? Movies I want to see include:
--Serenity
This one is a no-brainer. My love of Firefly is well, well documented and everything I keep reading tells me how good this movie truly is.
--A History of Violence
David Cronenberg is one of those directors who is fascinated by the viscera of violence. Films like Spider, Crash and Scanners really showcase this. His newest, A History of Violence looks to dig deeper with looking at the impulse behind it, the ramifications of it, the wake left behind it. I keep hearing that Viggo Mortensen's lead performance is even better and likely to garner him more praise than when he became Aragorn in the LOTR trilogy. That's high praise indeed right there. Can't wait to see how it all pans out.
--Proof
Sir Anthony as a brilliant burnout who eventually died from the madness within? Gwyneth Paltrow as his daughter who gave up her own ascent to care for him, only to find she might have inherited both his superior intellect and his headcrazy? Jake Gyllenhaal as a devoted math geek acolyte foil for Gwynnie? John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, Mrs. Brown) apparently directs this with the implied expectation that this is shoe-in Oscar material. I'll be the judge of that once I see it.
--Capote
There is no question about whether I will see this movie, but rather when. Philip Seymour Hoffman has apparently gone and done a seance and resurrected the immortal faggotry that was Truman Capote. Even from the trailer I saw, I couldn't believe the transformation. Capote centers around the time in Truman's life where he was drawn to the murder of the Clutters in rural Kansas, which was to become the research material for his book-of-the decade, "In Cold Blood". Catherine Keener, who I'm so used to seeing playing sexy bitches, comes in as Truman's writer friend/fag hag, Lee Harper, of "To Kill A Mockingbird" fame. Everyone must go to http://www.apple.com/trailers and view this trailer immediately.
--Jesus Is Magic
Sarah Silverman. Waxing Assholes. Jokes about the Holocaust. Racial Harmony. Need I say more?
So, does anyone want to go with me to any/all of these?
